Lowell Heap

Lowell Heap graduated from Fisher High School in 1951. He had a livestock business started by the time he graduated from high school. In 1953 he enlisted in the army and served for two years and thirteen months in Korea. In 1958 Lowell was raising 16,000 broilers and several hundred hogs per year. In 1962 he was producing 500,000 broilers on his 120 acre farm and marketing about 4,000 hogs, he established a herbicide and pesticide spraying business, and had bought several farms and made improvements on them.

He served on the Fisher School District Board of Education from 1966-1991 and from 2001-2009. He also served on the Farm Bureau Board, the Illini Farm Service Board, as a volunteer for the Sangamon Valley Fire Department, East Bend Township trustee and clerk, and as a commissioner for the Wildcat Drainage District. He was an elder and trustee at American Lutheran Church. Lowell died in October of 2009. He was married for over 52 years to Melvina. Their two sons Gene and Doug and grandson Mitch farmed with him.
